GLC Programs

The Graduate Life Center is home to a myriad of academic, professional, and social functions throughout the year. Graduate students, departments, and university organizations hold programs in the public and meeting spaces of the GLC. These events are announced on both the GLC Calendar of Events and on the weekly bulletin board listing in the GLC lobby. Additionally, graduate students and the Graduate School coordinate series of events for personal growth, learning, and fun throughout the semester. Read on to learn more about these programs.

Health and Wellness
Weekly fitness offerings and supplementary workshops provide opportunities for graduate students to stay in shape and tame stress. A variety of weekly fitness classes are provided exclusively for graduate students in War Memorial Hall. In the GLC, a weekly yoga series and occasional massage workshops provide additional opportunities to unwind.

Professional Development
The Graduate School's Transformative Graduate Education initiative strives to foster changes in the ways graduate students are prepared for becoming engaged contributors in modern universities and contributing professionals in their communities. The Graduate Life Center is the home to courses related to this initiative, including those offered as a part of the Preparing the Future Professoriate certificate and through the Graduate Education Development Institute. Courses in the fall and spring semesters help develop the English speaking and teaching skills of international graduate teaching assistants. Visit the Graduate School's website to learn more about these course offerings. Career Services also offers a weekly opportunity for graduate students to consult with a career advisor on a one-on-one basis. Check the Calendar of Events for details.

Personal Development
Seminars and workshops offered throughout the academic year provide graduate students with opportunities to develop life skills beyond the classroom and to prepare to make a successful transition from the academic to professional arena. In the past, seminars have focused on topics such as financial management, social networking, professional ethics, and discussions with leaders from academe and industry. Check the Calendar of Events for details.

Programs by Resident Graduate Student Organizations
Several graduate student organizations maintain office space at the Graduate Life Center and many more hold their events in the GLC meeting spaces throughout the year. Visit the Calendar of Events to find upcoming activites hosted by these groups or visit the websites of the GLC's resident organizations for additional information.
