About the Graduate Life Center
Overview
Conveniently located near the library, Squires Student Center, academic buildings, and downtown Blacksburg, the Graduate Life Center (GLC) provides space and venues that meet the unique needs of graduate and professional students.
The GLC is the hub of graduate student life, providing students with opportunities to meet and collaborate with faculty and peers across disciplines, develop skills for academic and professional success, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. The programs and services offered in the Graduate Life Center encourage and facilitate active participation in the graduate community.
Mission
The establishment of the Graduate Life Center at Donaldson Brown affirms Virginia Tech's continued commitment to building a graduate community that enhances the graduate education experience. The Graduate Life Center provides an intellectually stimulating and rich learning environment that builds a strong graduate community. The Center is a joint endeavor of the Graduate School, Student Programs, and University Unions and Student Activities.
Building Hours
Graduate Students may access the GLC and its public spaces at any time using their Hokie Passports. The public may access the first floor facilities and meeting rooms in the building during the following hours:

Public Spaces
Au Bon Pain
Au Bon Pain ®, the Graduate Life Center's coffee shop, features pastries, soup, and gourmet sandwiches.
Graduate Student Lounge
The lounge is broken into two sections. One features comfortable tables and chairs for individual and group study or relaxation. The other side features a large screen television and comfortable seating. Please note: regulations prohibit the viewing of privately-owned movies in the Lounge.
Computer Lab
A PC computer lab with Microsoft Office productivity software, the engineering package, Adobe Acrobat, and web browsing software is available for use by graduate students. Graduate students from all campuses may access the computer lab 24/7 by swiping their valid Hokie Passports through the card reader at the door. The Center also has wireless coverage throughout the first floor of the facility.
Study Room
A space with desks and chairs for quiet work and also includes a courtesy phone for
on-campus calls.
Reading Room
Quiet space with comfortable lounge chairs, tables and chairs, two Internet computer terminals, and a variety of reading materials..
Graduate Student Organization Offices
Several prominent graduate student organizations and leaders maintain office space in the Graduate Life Center. This secured area features individual offices, a meeting space, and storage. Currently, the Graduate Life Center is home to the following organizations and individuals:
Reservable Spaces
The Auditorium, Multipurpose Room, and Meeting Rooms in the Graduate Life Center are the home of various programs, seminars, and classes for graduate students. Visit the Calendar of Events to view a complete schedule. These spaces may also be reserved for events or meetings of individuals who are graduate students or support graduate education and student life. Short-Term Use Lockers
Coin-return lockers are available for temporary storage by graduate students.
Directions to the GLC
The Graduate Life Center is located on Otey Street, on the border of campus and downtown Blacksburg. The building sits adjacent to Alumni Hall, across from the Squires Student Center.

Directions from Downtown Blacksburg
From North Main Street, turn onto College Avenue (turn right if approaching from the north, left if approaching from the south). College Avenue proceeds past Squires Student Center and makes a 90 degree bend to the left, becoming Otey Street. The Center is on your right.
Directions from U.S. 460 Bypass
Follow the signs to Virginia Tech's Visitor's Center, on Southgate Drive. Proceed past the Visitor's Center on Southgate Drive. Make a left at the traffic light onto Spring Road. At the end of Spring Road, make a right onto Washington Street. Take the second left onto Otey Street. The Center will be on your left.
Parking at the Graduate Life Center
Parking for students, faculty, and staff is available in the parking lot across the street from the GLC. Visitors, make sure to obtain a Visitor parking pass from the Visitor's Center on Southgate Drive (see Directions from U.S. 460 Bypass, above) prior to parking in these areas.
